How I’m Preparing for Christmas in September – I completely understand if you don’t want to think about Christmas just yet. It is only September and it really does feel as if it gets brought up earlier and earlier each year!
For me, it’s so important to feel organised and prepared as early as possible, so, in this post, I’ll discuss how I’m preparing now and what I plan on doing over the next three months.
Its especially important that I start my planning early, not only do we have Christmas to organise we also have my birthday and my sons in December. My sons birthday is on Christmas day itself and even though he does also get a little celebration in June I still think it’s important to make a fuss on his actual birthday, we don’t go over the top with presents because of the June birthday. What we do, do is make memories and plan special times together.
The reason for this is because most people don’t remember every single present they received as a child but we do remember special times, family time.
What are my plans?
Make extra money
I like to start planning around this time, what extra side hustles I will be doing. I start to work on survey sites in the evening as well as click to pay and money making smartphone apps. Starting now gives me chance to build up my pot and time to cash out.
I already run a reselling business but I’ve timed it so I`m almost ready to start scaling up, which will hopefully mean I`ll see extra income for Christmas.
I might already run a reselling business but I also have personal items I can sell on my husbands personal eBay account and sites like Sphock and similar sites that only allow private sellers. I have kids toys and clothes, items of my clothing I no longer wear and random gifts we`ve received throughout the year but haven’t used. Ill gather all these together and sell them as a private seller as none of these items were bought to sell, they belong to us.
I’ll also make sure I utilise cashback sites and check the free daily draws.
I was hoping to restart matched betting, however, I’m not sure if I’ll have the spare cash in time. I’m hoping to but I will have to wait and see.
I know this might sound odd to some but I don’t set myself a target. I have in the past. The first time I set a target I blew past it by a few hundred pounds. The next time I was woefully below my target! So I like to just chip away and see how much I end up making much less stress and more enjoyable because anything extra, cash-wise helps.
I’ll update you on my Christmas money making and how it’s going once I’ve started.
I always like to have a good declutter around this time of year. I wrote the post Decluttering for Christmas where I explored methods and techniques that would get the job done well.
By decluttering it helps to clear space in the house for the festive period as well as making my private reselling easier as I get to sort out our personal items into either sell or donate or bin.
Make our winter bucket list
I’ve published our autumn bucket list which we`ll be starting this week; I like to finish the autumn list a little early and make a new one for winter with all the Christmas activities on it.
By doing this I can plan our activities and budget for them accordingly.
Gift Shopping, food shopping & meal planning
Now is the time I make these lists, it helps to have a list for gifts early so I can compare prices and take advantage of any sales or price drops. I’m quite lucky that my son tends to make his mind up quite early when it comes to what he’d like for Christmas and hasn’t as yet changed his mind close to Christmas! (A little more on this point, we don’t tend to outright ask him, we watch and listen very carefully as to what hes currently into and because he’s quite focused on his interests we haven’t got it wrong yet. What we have for his main present is what he asks for on his Santa letter) There’s a first time for everything I guess, now I’ve blogged about it, you watch this year he`ll decide the week before Christmas that he’d like something else! hehehe
I like to meal plan early so I can start to buy bits and pieces of foodstuffs and treats and put them away, I do have to really hide them well otherwise one of us is likely to be tempted and dip in! Most likely me! Oops! I also find if I plan early it gives me extra time to try new things and not feel so under pressure.
Everything I aim for in the months leading up to Christmas is to reduce the strain that can be felt on just one month’s pay. The earlier I start and the more I can spread the payments out the more we can have a really luxurious Christmas but for a fraction of the cost.
So that’s it so far, I like to get these things out of the way now, then anything else that needs organising goes on a further list closer to November and includes anything that hasn’t been completed on this list.
How about you, do you start planning early? Or do you save money and manage to do all the preparations closer to the day with the saved money? I was thinking of trying this method but I just seem set in my ways now :/
Please do drop me a comment and let me know how you prepare for Christmas and when you start Id love to know.
