I love my home town of Blackpool. I was born and brought up here but as many teenagers do, I left to go to university, I didnt finish uni, but I did stay travelling and living around the country. England is a beautiful place and I enjoyed every minute of living in different places.
But after 5 years of roaming the
Now I’ve got a little lad and we are a family I’ve started exploring Blackpool from a different point of view from, as anyone would when they have children.
So heres my little list of free things to do with kids in Blackpool this spring.
The saying “7 Golden Miles” refers to our 7 miles of sandy beach that’s just within the Blackpool boundary. We’ve also just been awarded our first ever Blue Flag. Which means we are now on par with other amazing coast lines in the world.
There are so many things you can do on the beach, especially with kids and it’s not all just fun there are lots of learning opportunities too. On sunny days it the perfect place for a day out, it’s not too bad either when it’s a bit rainy, it’s still fun!
Again there are miles of open, recently rejuvenated promenade. People walk, bike and scooter down there. Also scattered along the prom is “the great promenade show” which is a variety of sculptures of various sizes and designs. One of my favourites is the glitter ball, although that’s, not its official name!

The 3 Piers
Blackpool is the only place within the UK that still has 3 piers. Each one has its own little identity and place within Blackpool. Theres North, Central and South pier. Each one is free to walk down and take a few selfies (I dont know why I said that, becasue ive never do it. Well not yet lol!)
Laid out in front of the tower, created by the artist Gordon Young and the company Why Not Associates is our quite amazing Comedy Carpet. Its 2,200 meters squared and cost £2.6m. Its a major part of the councils plan to rejenerate Blackpool and its image, and yes I know theres still lots to be done on that front, but I like the Comedy Carpet. Its unique, just like Blackpool!
Picnics in Stanley Park
A little bit off the beaten track for holiday makers. Stanley Park is situated off West Park Drive and partially opposite Blackpool Zoo. Its Blackpool main park area and covers 390 acres.
Surrounding the park is the Model Village, which does cost money to
Another thing within the park that does cost money are the boats and the crazy golf, again both fun things to do if you do have some spends.
However there are play areas within the park and plenty of open spaces for picnics, push bikes, scooters, rollerblading. We`ve even taken a kite and flown it!
The Grundy Art Gallery
Open throughout the year Tuesday through Saturday. Its free admission and always has a really interesting and fun exhibition on show. Depending on the time of year it also holds workshops some I`
ve seen are halloween themed. Theres lots of great information to be digested in there!
So that’s it, a number of free things to do with kids in Blackpool this spring.
Obviously depending on the time of year and season depends on what there is to do. As we head into summer, there is the air show that is free as well as various free events that are put on, in St Johns Square, within the town centre.
Then as we head to the end of the season the Illuminations get switched on, just as they have always been, they are free too. Which is fab, in my opinion. Yes, they do ask for donations to ensure the continued running of them but it is a donation and not compulsory.
You can also ride the lights normally one night at the end of August the council close the road off on the promenade and let anyone who wants to ride the entire length of the Illuminations on a push bike, for free! So there really is something on, most of the time.
