Ay up chuck! Welcome to my About Me page. I’m so excited you have stopped by!
So what would you like to know?
What’s the blog about?
Can it help you in any way?
And who is the person behind the blog?
Well, I’ll answer these questions and anything else you want to know; you are more than welcome to send me a message. I always reply!
What’s the blog about?
It follows our life, as home educators to our 8-year-old son and my journey through self-employment and earning money online, reselling, upcycling furniture and blogging as well as taking you with us, in and around Blackpool and the Fylde coast, which is where we were all born and currently live.
I touch on the trials and tribulations of parenting, married life, and home improvements.
It’s a mix of niches. However, they are all connected and related in one way or another to me and my family’s journey. A journey through motherhood, married life, running a business, being a home educator and a 40-year-old woman constantly trying to be a better person all round.
Can it help you in any way?
Well, yes! I hope so! As I intend on sharing things based on our experiences and how we/I have personally dealt with situations, setbacks, and triumphs.
I hope to be able to offer encouragement and support to the family who are unsure of the next step to take when home educating, or who might be lost in an internet full of resources. Or the person who thinks they are too old to try something new, or the person who, regardless of age, feels they are no good at something; so won’t even try. Or the person who’s been told countless times that “you’ll be no good at it anyway”.
You’re never too old to try something new! You’ll never know what you’re capable of until you try. And just because someone may have been continually negative towards you and/or your ideas, doesn’t mean what they have said is true!
We only live once and get one shot at life! So let’s try that new thing, have fun doing it, decide if it’s for us and do it again or decide it’s not for us and try something else! Never give up and keep striving for your hopes and dreams!
Who’s behind the blog?
Ay up chuck, I’m Sarah a proud Lancashire lass (a bit older than a lass now to be honest!) and I’m a Sandgrown`un (someone born by the sand 😉) and I’m the person behind Sarah Beth Blogs.
I started this blog again after I realised just how much I missed blogging! You see this ain’t my first rodeo! Actually, I’ve had 3 previous blogs! None of which really inspired me, until I’d figured out what I was passionate enough to blog about.
When I became self-employed and started working from home, for one reason or another I found myself struggling daily with what and how I should be working.
I’d start something, not see any success and move on to something else before I’d given the first thing any time to develop. 🤦♀️
I did, however, have an epiphany once we started home educating Richard. Of course, I already knew you have to continually plug away at something to see success; which is what we were doing with home education. Constantly plugging away, until Richard understood a concept or idea.
It was literally through this process I realised all the mistakes I’d been making with my little business. I’d been giving up too easily and moving onto something else. I will also admit I’d let my anxiety and feelings get in the way of logic.
This process then led me to think; I can’t be the only person to have struggled this way. However, I realised I’m fortunate to have found a way through. This is one of the main reasons for the blog, realising I did have something valuable enough to share and hopefully help someone else.
We eventually began to develop a home ed routine, which suited all of us and our family dynamics. Once this happened I began to have more time to work on my little business so I literally applied the same determination as I had with home ed.
Although I’m still on my journey and developing things and ideas daily and I’ll admit it’s not an easy process to settle into and I’ve still got a long way to go but I can say hand on heart I’m finally content with what I’m doing and what is even more amazing is our son is the happiest and content I think I’ve ever seen him.
Don’t get me wrong, home ed isn’t for everyone, just like mainstream school isn’t a one size fits all. It’s just in our circumstances, it seems to work!
I love my hometown of Blackpool, I did briefly move away between the ages of 17-23. But came home because I was terribly homesick. That time away really made me appreciate just how lucky we are to live in Blackpool and have access to the beach whenever we want and to be able to travel 10 minutes in the car and be able to see the sea.
I’ve suffered and recovered from PTSD (non-forces related) but I still suffer with anxiety, which again is something I’m actively working on and will openly discuss!
I got married in 2008 and we had our son on Christmas Day, can you believe it! I couldn’t at the time! He was 5 days late as well!
So whether you’re here to get home education information and ideas, or you’re curious about working from home and earning online. Or you might be interested in how it all fits together? Or maybe just wondering what it’s like, to live in a seaside resort.
Whatever the reason, I dearly hope you find something useful, informative or a bit of a laugh! And if you have any questions or suggestions please do not hesitate to contact me, I will always reply, I value each and every reader!
